Heading out on vacation or taking a road trip?
These quick tips will set you in the right direction!
First and foremost, if you're traveling by vehicle, be sure to bring it in to have everything looked over, fluids filled, and maybe a fresh oil change about a week before you plan to leave. If there are any issues, you will have plenty of time to correct them before your planned trip!
Be sure you have a spare tire! Not only should you be sure you have one, but take it out and get a good look at it. If there is cracking in the rubber, it may end up being more headache than help in the event of a flat tire. The cracking usually indicates dry rot. This is something you don't want to deal with if you're already dealing with a flat. Dry rotted tires are dangerous and can lead to accidents! On top of the spare, be sure you have a proper jack and some sort of warning indicator to other motorists. A bright orange reflective triangle warning sign could come in handy here! If you're going to be on the side of the road changing a tire you want as much warning to other motorists as possible. While we're on the safety issues, we should mention, it's a good idea to always have a small first aid kit in your vehicle. You never know what may happen if you're far from home or in the middle of nowhere; a first aid kit could ultimately save a life!
Bring a spare set of keys! We suggest storing it in a little magnetic box you can stick on the bottom of your vehicle's frame. It would cause a bit of a headache if everyone left the vehicle at a fuel stop and keys got locked inside! Or even worse, the keys get misplaced somewhere. Wouldn't it be great to have that extra set stuck to the bottom of the vehicle?
4. Essential Apps
It's a good idea to load up a few essential apps on your phone to make the trip a little easier! A weather app to keep tabs on conditions you're heading toward. A map/Navigation app, like Google Maps, will come in handy when you're in areas you're unfamiliar with. Even better, Waze, another free navigation/map app, that has user updated info to let you know about traffic jams, accidents and other helpful issues on the road. If you have yet to book sleeping accommodations along your travels check out Hotel Tonight; an app that will help you find "amazing last minute deals" on hotels!
5. Have Fun
Do your best to enjoy every single minute of your trip! This is the break away from your daily routine! Don't stress out over anything! Enjoy your time away, even if you're on the side of the road with a flat tire. If you have that spare and a jack you are still in motion! Temporary setbacks are just that, temporary! Most of all be safe out there on the road! Be aware of your surroundings and take in as much as you can. You will come home refreshed with plenty of memories to reflect on! Have fun, drive safe; we look forward to seeing you in the future!
